My best friend Dave Moore

My best friend Dave Moore is having his 40th birthday on the 30th.

Thrashers had an incredible game last night against Tampa Bay. Atlanta pummelled the Lightning for the entire game, but Lightning goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was an unpenetrable monster. Down 2-0 in the last 4 minutes of the game, the Thrashers tied it and the game went into overtime. They lost the game on a strange shorthanded goal, but this was their first loss of the season and they have come away with at least a point in every game.

Still working hard on the CD project mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had Mark Blottner working in my office for nearly three weeks. Today is the day for the beta so we’ve got lots of hard work left. Who knew that Mark would be a World Music freak. We’re listening to lots of good stuff and I’ve also turned him on to totallyradio.

When I found out that somehow that AT&T was charging me 35¢ per minute by for long distance, I did a little research on clarkhoward.com and found OneSuite.com. You have to call another number to place your call, but they are 2.5¢ per minute with no monthly service fee at all. You just have to buy $10 to start. That’s 400 minutes! With AT&T that would cost $140! International rates are great too. Canada and the UK are 2.5¢ per minute and Australia is 2.9¢ per minute. Steven, Claire, Ozboyz – let’s chat!

Where the hell have I

Where the hell have I been? It’s been quite a week, and I was taken by suprise at the events.

To start off with, Joyce and I went to see Super Furry Animals with Brett Mason. I missed them the last time when they toured for “Rings Around the World” so I didn’t want to miss them this time. It was a great show. I was sort of leaning toward comparing his voice to the velvety smooth voice of Hugh Cornwell, but Joyce shot that idea down right away. What was strange is that they were opening for a band called Grandaddy, whoever the heck they are. Anyway, the set might have been a bit short, but we got home at about the same time that Dany Heatley pulled a stunt that could only be pulled off by a rich 22 year old sports sensation.

Speaking of Dany Heatley, the Thrashers forward drove his Ferarri and his teammate Dan Snyder into a wall at 80 mph. This boy could not have had worse timing. He was truly an inpiration for the team and the fans. Sounds like he’ll never be able to play at the same level again. I think many of us had high hopes for this season so I hope this event doesn’t flush it down the toilet. Both players are very lucky to be alive.

In July I was caught in the middle of two companies bidding on a project. I programmed the project last year, and both groups wanted me to do the work. To be fair, I decided to quote the same amount to each party. One group pumped me for all sorts of information for their proposal. They got the project, but gave it to another programming group who came in $1000 less. They didn’t even bother to tell me, I heard from my old business partner. Wednesday I get a call from this company. The deadline has been stretched to the max by client changes and the company that was supposed to program it bailed (probably wisely). A project that required one month of labor and two months to complete, has to be completed in just over two weeks. I’m having to hire two additional programmers (Beth Hartt and Mark Blottner) and my quote is 50% higher than the initial quote. Some people learn hard lessons.

On top of this I have a Flash screensaver, an employee orientation CD, and a web application demo CD, and two educational institution promotional CDs in addition to all of my freebie sites to complete by early November. Who knew this would happen when I was starving in July?

Did I mention I’m broke? Happy, busy, but broke.

Went the to drive-in again last night to see “The Rundown.” It starred Christopher Walken and The Rock. It was an amusing action flick based in the Amazon jungle of Brazil. The Rock is good in the fight scenes however improbable the outcomes are. Walken was a mining/slave baron and really does a good parody of himself. Worth the time I guess. It’s getting a bit chilly for the movies though.
