Catching up…again

There’s alot going on so time to catch up.

Back to Valentine’s Day…once again we went to Tierra and once again it was a sublime experience. This is easily our favorite restaurant on the fancy side. Joyce had a lobster dish which while not the best thing she had had there was very good. I had a New Zealand beef tenderloin served on a gordita with salsa verde. Now I prefer a little marbling in my meat for that flava, but this piece of beef, while lean as it gets was like velvet. Ticha and Dan get two thumbs up once again! We also ran into Grandma Nancy with her new guy. Dining at Tierra – she’s got taste too.

The next day I drove down to Delray Beach, Florida to visit my Dad and Stepmother. They do down there for the winter instead of staying up in Michigan. The way work has been and with my upcoming trip to visit my brother this was my only window to go visit before they return so…. I took the Toshiba with man and ended up throwing the Mac and a monitor in the trunk. Due to some deadline creep, I basically worked the whole time down there. In a way I was stuck too because I couldn’t take the time to drive back home. Ended up staying until Saturday morning. Not to worry though. We had a great time. Eat at a few restaurants and saw some jumping horse action. Kinda strange…it’s horse country down there and instead of fancy subdivisions on golf courses, they have fancy subdivisions on equestrian centers.

Work has been pretty steady since I’ve been back, but March is looking slow. I’m actually considering looking for a full time gig.

I fired my bank, Bank of America recently and opened up new accounts at Suntrust Bank. I’m glad I kept my Bank of America account open. When I opened the account I was told that for the first six months they would put holds on any deposits. What I didn’t realize is that this meant a 10 day (two week!) hold on all checks, even local checks. This is just silly. Plus their online banking sucks. I’ll be closing these accounts soon and start using my old accounts from the evil empire/Microsoft of banks, Bank of America.

Blottner prodded me into going to the Atlanta Macromedia Users Group (ATLMMUG) meeting last Monday. It featured Jesse Warden speaking about Flash MX 2004 and Macromedia Central. Now, I’m not generally a big fan of these user group meetings, but this one changed my attitude. It was very informative AND it was free! Jesse was like some sort of Flash spaz/savant and while I think the level of the talk was over many people’s heads, it was just right for me and I learned some new tecniques as well. Jesse, you’ve gotten me excited about the geek aspect of Flash again. Thanks!

There were probably 30 people there that night and it seemed that most were gainfully employed. Many worked for companies that were actually hiring. I in addition to seeing user group fetishist Leif Wells there, I ran into Andy Makely (with his hair cut!), who I haven’t seen for years.

Headed to Colorado next week. The last time I skied snowboards didn’t exits. YIKES!

Claire has a new show sorta. The web show is simulcast live on her new radio station Juice 107.2 FM. Funny – Claire being all pro and DJ and crap. Need to queue up a review for her!

The Gay Marriage “Threat”

What is so threatening about gay people getting married that it gets sooo many people bent out of shape?

Blottner and The Local

ColleenBlottner was in town tonight so we went to The Local to have a beer. It’s always nice to randomly meet another Director geek. Seems we may remain friends for a very long time.

Of course if figures that on Mark’s first visit Daniel seemed pretty distracted but what the hell. Colleen rules and it was great to see Grant and Lary. Grant was creaming over Hollis’ new book which is nice.

After Mark and I parted ways, I ended up at Moe’s and Joe’s for a take-out french dip. Turns out that tonite was the opening night for The Cavern (formerly Gecko Lounge) right next door. It was great to see Paula and Anton. I didn’t have a drink but after meet and greet I went straight to Moe’s to order my sandwich. Just before I left I saw a sign mentioning Horace’s funeral. Turns out Horace died a few weeks ago. He worked for Moe’s and Joe’s for something near 50 years. The bartender said ” ah, he was just old….” I said ” I hope I get there.” We smiled. I’ve never spent much time at Moe’s and Joe’s but I’ll always remember Horace.

THE TiVo Moment

So we’re watching the Half-Time Show and I hear Joyce say “Whoa! Did you see that!?!” “No, what?” So we grab the TiVo remote and check out Janet’s boob flopping out. Turns out this exact scenario (in addition to screams across the country) happened to just about every other TiVo owner. In fact it was the most replayed moment in TiVo history. Funny.
