Political Problem

I just finished watching the Frontline documentary, “The Jesus Factor” about George W. Bush’s faith and how it has shaped him and his political life. Holy Cow. No pun intended. I am, like many others, not happy with how things have been going under GWB. I think that Afghanistan was a big enough handfull without having to invade Iraq over what has turned out to be nothing. But what scares me the most is his use of Jesus to justify just about anything he does in office.

Personally, I usually vote for the Libertarian candidate, which may seem like throwing away a vote. Now I’m really in a conundrum. How do I vote GWB out of office, when the Democrats have a dud like John Kerry running? Ah well, I generally have a dim view of politicians in general so we’re probably screwed either way.

Will Atlanta Ever Acknowledge Hockey?

This town sucks. Not that anyone knows, but the Stanley Cup Finals are happening and none of our news outlets ever make a mention. Sure, we get college baseball playoffs. The NBA Playoffs. The French Open. The perpetually dismal Hawks’ search for a coach. This is the AJC.com. Same thing last night on WSB’s 11 o’clock news. It’s just pathetic.

Half Price Angel

A few weeks ago we went for brunch at The Angel, one of the Derek Lawford pubs that recently opened in Decatur. As happens at times nowadays, there was a signup for their email list presented with our bill. We signed up and a few days ago we got an email coupon for 50% off tonight from 8 to 11.

You know, this place is a pub, real pints (20 oz imperials), pub food. Nothing special. Tonight we ordered a sandwich and a burger and a appetiser. The main course came out before the appetiser so 86 the appetiser. The sandwich ordered without tomatoes had tomatoes. The burger, ordered medium rare, was way overcooked. We really don’t expect much from this place, but tonight the kitchen was definitely not working too well.

I ask for the bill, give the plastic, head to the bathroom. No paper towel. Head back out – 15 minutes later we get our credit card slips.

Bad night – full price – yes.

Half price – no

There you have it. On a regular night we’d never return. For half price we become much more tolerant.

Rock and Roll Monster Bash at the Starlight!

Hey Y’all! Just heard about the Rock and Roll Monster Bash at the Starlight Drive-In! It’s Sunday June 6th. Bands, Performances, Artist Showings, and a Hearse and Hotrod show!

The best thing is the movies! Phantasm and the ultra-classic Evil Dead!

Debug Those Pesky .AS Files!

One of the most frustrating things about using AS2 is that you can’t set breakpoints in AS files. I was browsing the ChattyFig site and in the best practices section there is a way to do this!

Add a function in your main FLA file called doBreak() put a break point there and whenever you call it from your AS files you get the debugger! Alan Prather’s trick. I’ll be using it tomorrow. Nice!

Twittering Machine Anyone?

Also on XMU’s Chill this morning tons of Atlanta band Twittering Machine, featuring former-HIP employee and lemur lookalike Bo Latham on drums!

They are a very nice bunch of kids. So mellow yet rhythmic, so latin and jazzy. I need to see them live sometime soon. Maybe a review for totallyradio?

XMU Chill

They’re playing a ton of Sigur Ros. I forget how friggin’ amazing they are. Buy them. See them.

Happy Birthday Darby!

Darby's Eight!

Self-Registering Before addEventListener

I’ve got a group of three tab window movie clips. They each sit on the stage with their own class – Tab – assigned in the linkage properties. These tabs dispatch a tabClicked event and a tabCloseClicked event. On the timeline I’ve set up and used tab_1.addEventListener(listenerObj) for each tab. Run the movie – it works great. Events are received.

Now I want to make this self contained to I take the elements on the stage and create a movie clip out of them. Then I take the code on the timeline and make it into a class – Tabs – and set it up using the linkage settings for the clip. I run it and magically my events stop being received.

Friday Night at the Drive-In

The season for the drive-in is here! We’ve gone the last two Fridays and seen 13 Going on 30 (actually a pretty good movie), and Kill Bill Vol. 2 (as good as the first and different to boot!). If you haven’t been to the wonderful Starlight Drive-In, I’d highly recommend it. It’s just amazing sitting out under the stars in our little camping chairs with our cooler.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in joining us on any given Friday please drop me a line or leave a comment!
