Authenticating…….. (World of Warcraft)

So after my rant about Halo 2 and another try tonight, flailing about against those that would waste me, I went to WoW. For the second night “Authenticating…” Obviously they are having some serious problems with capacity. Unfortunately I’m paying for a service. At US$12/month I’m definitely thinking about cancelling my account, at least until the Blizzard servers are capable of handing the load.

XFlash and the Halo 2 Butt Kicking

So a post on the XFlash mail list went out to meet up last night and I joined in. Only a few of us as far as I can tell, but that really doesn’t matter. I CANNOT PLAY HALO 2 WORTH A DAMN. Holy crap I actually had a score of -1 which means all I managed to do was to kill myself. The other guys are scoring double digits. Believe it or not, I think I’m getting better, but I really need some tips here. I’m looking around and people are just descending upon me, laying down the discipline. I was hoping that Stacey-BWC would show up for some comic relief but not last night.

I just have trouble with the controls in FP shooters on consoles. I do much better with Half-Life 2 when the control is a mouse.

I’ll definitely show up again the next time there’s a call, but for now I think World of Warcraft is where I’m at (and I ain’t that great at that either). It would be fun to start a WoW group of Flashers as well. My main character is LuxInterior on Bloodhoof, so give me a shout sometime.

My Fab Weekend

Well I figure that since most of the time I spend on this blog is deleting spam, I should probably make some entries. Especially since I had such a good weekend.

Friday night we went to El Myr, which was good as usual. At least I was able to obtain a good anejo tequila for 7 bucks instead of the $14.50 (!) I spent on one at Pura Vida on Valentine’s Day (It was good nonetheless – 6 tapas, 1 dessert, 1 bottle of wine – $65). When we got home we watched Maria Full of Grace, which was an incredible film. I found it to be very short – only 100 minutes – this film was definitely to the point. Catalina Sandino Moreno may just be worthy of the best actress award she’s been nominated for. Highly recommended.

We also watched the DVD from the new London Calling – 25th Anniversary Legacy Edition. Let me tell you about a band that was firing on all cylinders!

Saturday…Did some work…slept most of the afternoon, then got up to go see Neko Case at the Variety Playhouse. Excellent show by all bands. Was especially suprised by rockin’ opener Visqueen which featured Ronnie Barnett from my beloved Muffs on bass. Visqueen rocks so check them out. Rachel Flotard is the new Joan Jett! The Sadies from Toronto played second – turns out they are also Niko Case’s band. Neko has a voice from heaven. One thing though is that I think her talents shine brighter in a more collaborative environment like when she was playing with The New Pornographers. She must be seen live though to be believed. Amazing.

Sunday was the 2005 “Brown Water” party at Damon’s place. 10 or so people, seven or so bottles of single malt scotch. I’m not the biggest scotch drinking in the world, but tasting side by side is definitely educational and a lot of fun! Thanks Damon!
